Simple Stress-Relief Strategies: Support for You, Support for Others

  2. » Simple Stress-Relief Strategies: Support for You, Support for Others

Each year, International Stress Awareness Day reminds us that stress is a universal experience.
Stress is the body’s response to pressure or change, often experienced as mental strain, anxiety, or physical symptoms such as headaches, muscle tension, or difficulty sleeping. Even those who dedicate their careers to supporting others—like behavioral health professionals—are not immune. We believe caring for yourself is an essential part of caring for others, which is why we encourage our teams to practice stress management as part of their daily routine.

Managing stress doesn’t always require big changes and can lead to significant health benefits. In fact, simple, intentional practices can help restore calm and balance in just a few minutes. Below are practical, quick strategies you can try right now — and a special guided breathing exercise you can follow any time you need a reset.

Try This Breathing Exercise: 4-7-8 Technique

Take a moment now and try a guided 4-7-8 breathing exercise. This YouTube video walks you through the steps: inhale for 4, hold for 7, exhale for 8 — a simple but effective way to calm your nervous system and center your thoughts.

Breathing for Stress: 478 #relaxing #breathing #meditation

Watching and following along takes just twenty seconds, and you can use this technique anywhere — at home, in the car, or at your desk.

Stress-Relief Practices You Can Use Immediately

At Home
Create a calm bedtime ritual. Limit screens before bed, write down thoughts in a journal, or do light stretching to signal your body it’s time to rest.

In the Car
Turn time in traffic into a moment to reset. Try deep breathing at red lights or reflect on three things you’re grateful for before you reach your destination.

At Your Desk
Even short breaks can make a difference. Step away from your inbox for two minutes of box breathing—inhaling, holding, exhaling, and pausing for equal counts—or simply take a mindful pause before moving on to your next task.

Wellness at Work: Clarvida’s Approach.

We know that stress relief isn’t just about personal well-being — it’s also about creating an environment where employees can thrive. Our teams are encouraged to practice self-care, not as an afterthought, but as an essential part of providing high-quality support to the individuals and families we serve.

This culture of care reflects our mission: to support not only our clients but also the dedicated professionals who make our impact possible.

Clarvida Careers: Meaningful Work, Supported Employees

For those considering a career in behavioral health, stress awareness is more than personal practice, it’s a professional value. At Clarvida, we prioritize wellness because we know that balanced, supported employees are better able to create meaningful changes in the lives of others.

If you’re seeking a career where stress management and wellness are taken seriously, explore Clarvida careers. Here, you’ll find more than a job, you’ll find meaningful work in an environment that supports both your professional growth and personal well-being.

October is Depression and Mental Health Screening Month, a time to raise awareness about the importance of early identification and support for mental health conditions. We know that early intervention can make all the difference—for students, families, and communities. Our professionals are at the heart of that life-changing work.

The Power of Early Intervention

Mental health screenings are often the first step in identifying depression, anxiety, or other conditions that might otherwise go unnoticed. Screenings provide critical insight into an individual’s well-being and open the door to the care and resources they need. Our school-based staff, clinicians, direct support professionals, and behavioral health staff ensure that screenings are meaningful and actionable, connecting individuals to the right interventions and supports.

Early intervention doesn’t just benefit those we serve—it benefits our employees too. Working in these roles gives you the opportunity to see tangible impact in real time, develop your clinical or support skills, and contribute to healthier, stronger communities.

Careers That Make a Difference

Whether you’re just starting out or are already an experienced professional, Clarvida careers in mental health grow with you:

  • School-based clinicians: Conduct screenings, provide counseling, and collaborate with educators to support students’ mental health.
  • Direct Support Professionals: Build relationships, provide guidance, and connect individuals with resources for early intervention.
  • Behavioral health careers: Help manage programs, track outcomes, and ensure that interventions are effective and timely.

Every Clarvida role empowers employees to make a measurable difference in people’s lives, while also providing mentorship, career growth, and opportunities to pursue licensure or leadership pathways.

Why Join Clarvida During Mental Health Screening Month?

This month reminds us that the need for early intervention is urgent—and that careers in mental health and direct support are more meaningful than ever. By joining Clarvida, you can:

  • Play a key role in identifying and supporting those in need.
  • Grow your skills in a supportive, mission-driven environment.
Contribute to a culture of purpose, collaboration, and professional development.
  • Championing Collective Action Against Stigma

When you join Clarvida, you’re not just building a meaningful career, you’re becoming part of a movement to reshape perceptions of mental health.

Collective Action is Powerful

As we work together with colleagues, educators, and communities, we send a clear message that seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness. By participating in this shared mission, employees help break down barriers that keep people from accessing the care they deserve.

Together, we foster open dialogue, promote understanding, and create safe spaces where individuals feel empowered to ask for help. The result is a ripple effect that reaches far beyond our clinics, communities and classrooms, changing attitudes, reducing shame, and inspiring hope. For those passionate about advocacy and community impact, there is no greater reward than contributing to a culture where every voice matters and every journey is respected.

“I love how we prioritize meeting clients where they’re at. Sometimes this means picking up kids from school, meeting in the community, or even meeting them in their homes. I appreciate how adaptive we make our services. Sometimes we spend a session helping clients access resources, other times we focus on developing skills, and often we are helping clients navigate their relationships. I never feel like I am ‘stuck inside a box’ but instead have the space to be creative and adapt services to the unique needs of my clients each day.” Mattelyn Wadley, Community Programs Supervisor and Clinical Therapist

At Clarvida, your work matters every day. If you’re looking for a career that combines purpose, growth, and real impact in behavioral health, there’s no better time to start than Mental Health Screening Month.

Our employees make a real difference in people’s lives. Whether you’re supporting families, guiding individuals through treatment, or building programs that improve access to care, your work has a lasting impact. That’s why we’re proud to celebrate the people behind Clarvida’s mission.

Impact by the Numbers

We believe that careers in mental health are more than jobs—they’re opportunities to create change. The impact of our teams can be seen in the results we deliver every year:

  • Thousands of individuals and families supported through behavioral health programs.
  • Expanded access to care in new communities, ensuring more people receive help when they need it most.
  • Dozens of employees promoted annually, highlighting how Clarvida careers open doors for growth and leadership.

These milestones remind us that the work of every team member contributes to meaningful progress.

A Culture of Support and Growth

Choosing a career in mental health means walking alongside people during their most vulnerable moments. We take that responsibility seriously—and we know our employees need support, too.

Our culture is built on:

  • Mentorship: Experienced leaders guide team members through each stage of their careers.
  • Collaboration: You’ll be part of a community that values diverse perspectives and shared problem-solving.
  • Career Growth: With pathways to advancement, Clarvida careers empower you to expand your skills and impact.

When you join our team, you’re not just taking a behavioral health job—you’re investing in a career where you’re valued and supported.

My name is Robert Howell, and I have proudly served as the State Supported Employment Director for Clarvida for the past 26 years. During that time, I’ve witnessed firsthand how meaningful work transforms lives—not just for those we serve, but for our communities as a whole.

I lived with mental illness for many years, and I made it my mission to not only help clients find jobs in their local communities, but also to hire employment specialists within our organization who could serve as living proof that success is possible despite mental health or physical disabilities.

This Disability Employment Awareness Month, I’d like to share the story of one such success: Ms. Linda Wright of Georgia.

Linda’s Journey: From Client to Colleague

Linda enrolled in our supported employment program in 2008 while working as a supervisor at a local animal clinic. Though she enjoyed her work, she dreamed of something more—a career in the mental health field.

With the support of her employment specialist at Clarvida, Linda began working toward that goal. Around that time, Georgia Pines Community Health Center needed a case manager. Linda applied and was selected for the role.

She excelled as a case manager and, after years of success, was eventually discharged from the supported employment program. But Linda’s journey with Clarvida wasn’t over.

In August of 2018, a position opened up for an Employment Specialist within our agency. Linda applied, interviewed, and was hired. In many ways, she had come full circle—returning to the place where her journey first began.

Since then, Linda has excelled in her role, helping countless clients achieve their own employment goals. She shows what’s possible when people have the opportunity to use their skills and thrive.

The Power of Work in Recovery

Whether you’re applying for a position at Clarvida or participating in one of our many programs across the country, the message is the same: with determination and the right support, meaningful employment is possible.

There is no mental or physical disability that prevents someone from achieving this goal. Over my 26 years, I have placed thousands of clients in jobs and seen the massive impact employment has on personal recovery and self-confidence.

Honoring Disability Employment Awareness Month

As we celebrate Disability Employment Awareness Month, let us honor the resilience and dedication of individuals like Linda Wright. Her story is one of perseverance, growth, and impact—showing that inclusive hiring practices don’t just change lives; they strengthen entire communities.

On behalf of Clarvida, thank you, Linda, for the difference you make every day in the lives of our clients.

👉 Explore Careers at Clarvida

At Clarvida, we recognize a simple but profound truth: the work we do every day changes lives.

Whether our employees are showing up for students in a school hallway, supporting a family in crisis, or guiding someone toward healing in a therapy session—they are helping people thrive in ways that matter. And behind every moment of care is a story worth sharing.

We’re excited to introduce Seenit, a new platform we’re launching to help us collect and celebrate employee-generated video content—directly from the people living our mission every day: our employees.

What Is Seenit?

Seenit is a simple, mobile-friendly video tool that empowers employees to record and upload short clips straight from their phone or computer. No production crew, no pressure—just their voice, their experience, and their perspective.

We’ll use these videos to help tell Clarvida’s story in an authentic way—whether it’s for recruiting new team members, showing the heart of our work to the outside world, or celebrating what makes our culture so special from the inside out.

Why Our Employee Stories Matter

Our employees carry powerful stories—of breakthrough moments, small victories, human connection, and unwavering compassion. These moments are Clarvida. They reflect the purpose behind our mission and the difference we make together every day.

When our employees share their voices, it not only uplifts others—it helps future team members see what it truly means to be part of this community.

Let’s Show the Heart of Clarvida

At Clarvida, our greatest impact comes from the people behind the work. That’s why we’re using this new tool to bring their voices to the forefront—real stories from the team members who change lives every day. Their journeys, their growth, their passion for what they do—these are the stories we’re proud to share with the world. Because when we tell their stories, we show what Clarvida is truly all about.

Why Self-Care Matters at Clarvida

At Clarvida, we know that exceptional care for others starts with intentional care for ourselves. This Self-Care Month, we’re spotlighting the tools, activities, and resources available to help our team recharge, reset, and stay well—mentally, emotionally, and physically.

For our professionals, self-care isn’t just personal—it’s professional. Whether you’re supporting individuals as a clinician, a direct support professional, or in a school-based role, caring for yourself allows you to bring your best self to the people and communities we serve. That’s why Clarvida careers are more than just jobs that make a difference—they’re roles where your well-being is valued alongside the impact you create.

Engagement Activities for Self-Care Month

This year, Clarvida is creating intentional opportunities for our teams to pause, reflect, and invest in wellness together. Employee engagement activities include:

  • Mindful Moments – Guided mindfulness and grounding practices, including simple breathing exercises, gentle stretching, intention-setting, and journaling prompts.
  • Wellness Warmups – Quick, practical wellness routines to try—ranging from movement and creative outlets to energizing exercises that spark curiosity.
  • Gratitude Virtual Group – A supportive shared space for gratitude, affirmations, and reflection, building connection across our community.
  • Self-Care Month Calendar – A daily resource filled with ideas, practices, and reminders to help employees integrate self-care into their routines.

These activities not only encourage wellness but also strengthen the sense of community and support that makes Clarvida a special place to work.

Wellness Resources for You and Your Household

Clarvida also provides benefits designed to support whole-person wellness—including support for your family at home.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
Available 24/7 and 100% confidential, the EAP helps you and your household navigate:

  • Mental health and emotional well-being
  • Parenting, caregiving, and family relationships
  • Work and education support
  • Financial and legal consultation
  • Lifestyle and life transitions
  • Home and auto services

These resources ensure that mental health careers at Clarvida come with the support needed to thrive both at work and beyond.

Clarvida-Sponsored Wellness Tools

In addition to engagement activities and the EAP, Clarvida offers digital health solutions to support daily wellness:

  • Hinge Health – Virtual services for joint pain, recovery, and healthy movement
  • Teladoc Health – 24/7 access to doctors, therapists, and providers online
  • Garner Health – A navigation tool to find high-quality healthcare providers

One team member shared:

“The Hinge Health app that’s free to Clarvida employees has been amazing! I’ve been able to quit smoking by replacing smoke breaks with guided exercise breaks—and I’m down a few pounds since starting. It’s a truly excellent benefit the company is providing.”

Boundaries Are Self-Care

Self-care isn’t only about what you do—it’s also about what you protect. Boundaries help maintain energy and prevent burnout, making them essential for purposeful careers in behavioral health and human services.

Try these quick scripts for healthier boundaries:

  • “I’m away from my desk and will respond in the morning.”
  • “Let’s reconnect tomorrow when I can give this my full attention.”
  • “I’d like to give this the time it deserves—can we schedule it later this week?”

Boundaries aren’t barriers—they’re bridges to better well-being.

Careers That Care for You Too

At Clarvida, we believe that supporting self-care and well-being is part of what makes our roles so meaningful. A career here isn’t just about what you give—it’s also about the support you receive in return. From wellness-focused jobs to mental health careers, our opportunities allow you to build a purpose-driven career while knowing your own well-being is valued.

Suicide Prevention Month: Raising Awareness and Building Hope

Each September, communities across the nation recognize Suicide Prevention Month, a time to reflect, connect, and renew our commitment to saving lives. At Clarvida, we believe that prevention is possible and that every role in our organization contributes to building hope and resilience. Whether through clinical support, school-based services, or direct care, our professionals are on the frontlines—proving every day that compassion and connection can make the difference between despair and possibility.

How Clarvida Puts Suicide Prevention Into Action

This month, we have two important ways our teams are coming together to deepen awareness and strengthen our collective approach:

  • Exploring CAMS-Care Together
Clarvida hosted an internal learning session on CAMS-Care (Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality), an evidence-based framework designed to help providers and clients work together to address the drivers of suicidality. The discussion gave our professionals the opportunity to reflect on research-backed strategies and explore how collaborative models can enhance treatment and care.
  • World Suicide Prevention Day Vigil
We will observe World Suicide Prevention Day with a virtual vigil dedicated to remembrance, reflection, and healing. Together, our community will honor lives lost, support those impacted, and celebrate stories of hope and resilience—reminding us that connection saves lives and prevention is always possible.

These moments will help our employees create space for awareness and reinforced the powerful role that Clarvida professionals play in suicide prevention each and every day.

A Career That Makes a Difference

At Clarvida, a career is more than a job – it’s a calling. From direct support professionals to clinicians and school-based staff, our teams are united by a shared purpose: advancing mental health, preventing suicide, and building brighter futures. For those seeking suicide prevention careers, mental health jobs, or purposeful careers where your work directly impacts lives, Clarvida offers a path forward.

Each September, we pause to recognize the incredible contributions of Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) during DSP Recognition Week. DSPs empower individuals, support families, and strengthen communities every single day. Their compassion, dedication, and resilience remind us of the powerful impact purpose-driven careers can have.

At Clarvida, our leadership is deeply inspired by the work of our Direct Support Professionals. As Corey McCann, Associate Director of IDD Operations, shares:

“I’m so proud of our incredibly dedicated and compassionate DSPs at Clarvida. Their work transforms lives, and their passion inspires all of us to keep growing and serving with purpose.”

To see this in action, watch our video The Life-Changing Work of Professionals at Clarvida. It shines a spotlight on the incredible ways our DSPs and care teams transform lives, and how this work transforms them too.
